Oil Recovery

How to turn waste oil into capital in an environmentally friendly way

HEAD Engineering offer process solutions for purification and recovery of oils from low quality sources such as waste oil, slop oil and oil lagoons. Slop oil is recovered to high quality fuel oil and is ready to use.

The company’s strength is to tailor and customized process solutions using a combination of surface chemistry and thermomechanical technologies.

Our case

Our partner Lucent Chemicals AB, which ownership is connected to HEAD Engineering, is developing demulsifiers that are developed to treat these complicated oils.

Lucent Chemicals subsidiary Oy Phoenix Collector Ltd operates a facility for treatment of waste oil, where HEAD Engineering’s technology and Lucent Chemicals products are used. The plant is also used for developing and test of new technology and chemicals. The waste oil is collected mainly from vessels and tank bottoms. The facility has a capacity to treat 50 000 cubic meters per year. Oil waste are collected 24 hours, every day of the year. Treated oil holds a BS&W of less than 0,5% and the generated water continuously contains less than 1 ppm of oil.

Our process

The process of recovering waste oil is divided in three steps:

  1. Break the emulsions with require heat, a demulsifier and a proper mixing.
  2. Remove solid contaminants with decanters.
  3. Separate oil and water with high-speed separators.

The separators produce a high-quality oil. The water from the separators may need further handling in a water treat process.

HEAD Engineering offers complete plants ready to use and consulting services to optimize and development of existing plants and processes.
