Process Design & Development

Process design is a core discipline at Head Engineering and forms the foundation of our offering. We develop and scale industrial processes from laboratory methods to full-scale production plants, and design process solutions based on both proven technologies and new concepts adapted to specific product and capacity requirements.

We deliver process solutions that are efficient, robust and repeatable, and are experienced in highly automated and integrated plant environments. Our work spans pulp and paper, tall oil, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, explosives and energetic materials.

Head Engineering has developed proprietary processes within the PINOLA programme for the pulp and paper industry, including PINOLA TOPP for tall oil production from sulphate soap. Within explosives, we develop and refine process concepts for TNT and RDX/HMX production through VisPro, combining established chemistry with modern safety and automation principles. We are also developing proprietary solutions for improved resource efficiency and environmental performance, including recovery of key process chemicals and reduction of major waste streams, contributing to both reduced environmental impact and improved process economics.

Our expertise includes separation technology, reaction systems and process integration, enabling us to optimise performance, safety and operability across the entire process.

We take responsibility for process design ranging from individual unit operations to complete process plants, supporting our clients from concept development through to industrial implementation.
